Contract notice period calculator
Work out the last day to give notice before a contract ends or auto-renews, and download a reminder for your calendar.
Enter the date your contract ends (or its next renewal date) and the notice period written in the contract. The calculator works out the last day to give notice, how many days you have left and, if the contract renews automatically, what happens if you miss it. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
How the dates are worked out
- Last day to give notice = contract end date minus the notice period. If the notice period is 90 days and the contract ends on 31 December 2026, the last day is 2 October 2026.
- Notice in months is counted back in calendar months to the same day of the month. If that day doesn't exist (for example, 3 months before 31 May would be 31 February), the last day of that month is used: 28 February, or 29 February in a leap year.
- Days left counts from today, in your own time zone, to the last day to give notice.
- If it auto-renews, the new term starts the day after the end date and runs for the renewal term. The next notice deadline is worked out the same way from the new end date.
- Start your review is 90 days before the notice deadline, which gives time to check usage, performance and budget and to talk to other suppliers.
Check the clause before you rely on the date
Contracts word notice differently, and the wording can move the deadline. Read the clause, and ask your legal team if anything is unclear.
- "At least 90 days before" or "not less than 90 days": the calculator's date is the last day the notice should arrive. Send it earlier so it arrives in time.
- "Clear days" leaves out both the day notice is given and the end date, so the deadline is a day or two earlier.
- "Business days" or "working days" leave out weekends and bank holidays, so the deadline is much earlier than the same number of calendar days.
- How notice must be given: in writing, to a named address, by post or recorded delivery, or by email. Notice sent the wrong way may not count.
- Weekends: if the deadline falls on a Saturday or Sunday, aim to give notice by the Friday before.

SupplierVault does this for every contract automatically. It works out the review date, the last day to change volumes or prices and the last day to give notice, counts down on the Dashboard and the Renewals page, and adds the dates to your Outlook or Google calendar.
